Artist's Comments

Again, I posted this already as part of a bunch of sketchbook paintings but I like it so it gets it's own page.
I was reminded of it when I saw two magpies attacking a third one in the road in front of my house today. Vicious feckers.
...two for joy, my arse.

We have jays in our neighborhood that regularly dive bomb the local cats and occasionally, the mail people.

We also have hawks, which regularly dive bomb the jays, so I guess it all balances out.

Perhaps the joy is for the birds? More of them, more terror? As for the painting, I like the black & white, it is perfect for the topic. I really like the bird on the left, but also like the expression on the bird on the right.

"people"? ...wow, that'd keep you alert.. potential attack from above. If I was a postman, I'd buy and train a hawk.

Oooh, this is so pretty. I love how the text contrasts with the overall solemn feeling.

Gorgeous as usual! I know what you mean by them being vicious....a lot of birds are.. I have a garden full busily chasing each other around and generally being fairly nasty to each other...but love them all the same. Some are very nice to their fellow avians though....we must remember they're descended from dinosaurs  Baby currawongs look like pterodactyls

Oh yeah, nasty territorial things. They tend to hang out in one spot, so they aren't too hard to avoid. Luckily for me the lawn mower scares them off or I'd be looking for a trained hawk myself
